The End of Term 1!

Kia Ora!

What a fantastic term it has been. I feel like the term has flown by! I cannot wait for term 2 to start so we can begin some new and exciting learning.
Enjoy this video of Rūma Kererū throughout term 1. It features a lot of the fantastic activities we have been doing so far this year.

Have a great holiday!

Week 8!

8 weeks down, 3 to go!
The highlight of this week has been Top Team!

On Thursday we were very lucky to have the Top Team Challenge at Kaniere School. We were joined by Kokatahi-Kowhitirangi School for a fun filled morning of 12 activities that challenged us both mentally and physically, encouraging team work and fast thinking.
Kaniere and Kokatahi worked hard on their challenges, they showed amazing whanaungatanga by working as a team and being inclusive of everyone involved!

I myself had a blast with Mrs Fearn, first running sack races and then the burst pipe water activity.
This was great as I was able to have first hand interactions with the teams and I had the chance to see the growth and progress within the groups as well as the support the lovely Kererū captains provided for their teams.

I have attached some photos of the fantastic day we had. I have also thrown in some photos from the ceremony we had, awarding the Seniors their badges for the responsibilities they have taken on!
A very proud moment from myself. Seeing them with all their badges has made me appreciate the effort they go to even more!

Week 7!

Kia Ora Koutou

This week we have been busy bees in Rūma Kererū(and the Kura)
We have had tamariki away at West Coast Swimming Sports, a visit from the Manawatu Jets, rugby skills with Nobby, our first session of Ngā Tipu Tōtara and the opening of our brand new climbing frame!

Finnian(year 5), Isla(Year 6) and Luke(year 5) were away on Thursday for the West Coast Swimming Sports. They went to Westport to compete in their respected races and from what I have been told, represented Kaniere Kura very well!
Rūma Kererū are very proud of you and how far you have made it thus far!

On the same Thursday we had a visit from the Manawatu Jets!
They came all the way down to Kaniere Kura and we were lucky enough to have a session with them working on our basketball skills and getting their expert advice on our already finely honed skills.
There were many bags, books and balls autographed and a very happy group of tamariki.

Rugby skills were on Tuesday and Nobby was awesome!
The tamariki now know new games they can play to practice their skills and get them ready for the upcoming season.
I am very happy I went and joined in as well as learnt new games so we can do these at Kura.
Not only will this help us individually, it will help with our team building skills as well as our connections within our akomanga.

Today we had our first session of Ngā Tipu Tōtara for the year 6’s.
This is a programme is built from the idea that we are all seedlings that will grow together, building our confidence to be strong and proud individuals.
This is done through physical activity and learning techniques that are engaging and are aimed to develop tamarikis relationship and skill building, build their confidence and capabilities as well as being a leader of their own.

Last but not least, the most exciting part of the week… our brand new climbing frame has been opened!!!
We have been very fortunate to have the support of the Board of Trustees and local businesses to make this happen. The tamariki have been waiting in anticipation over the last couple of weeks while we have had the finishing touches put in to ensure it is safe and today was the first day they were able to use it. Very exciting for the tamariki and all those who use the playground.

Up and coming for week 8 we have…
Student Led Conferences!
This is such a fantastic way to connect further with your tamarikis kaiako, discuss the results from testing and understand the learning goals that are put in place.

Top Team!
Top Team will be happening on next Thursday from 9:30 – 11:00. This is an exciting and engaging session for the tamariki(and kaiako) that is always a hit!
